Personal Interests

I currently live in Janesville with my husband, who has his PhD in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin Madison. We are very happy to be living in such a friendly, hard-working community, and look forward to giving back to our community for years to come. We especially enjoy biking on the Ice Age Trail, and taking walks in the Rotary Gardens. Breakfast at the Wedge Inn East is a real treat, too!

I have been a hedgehog owner and active member of the Hedgehog Welfare Society (HWS) since 2004. I have been a board member of HWS since 2008, and have been rescuing hedgehogs as an official rescue station since 2005. I participate in educational programs about hedgehogs and hedgehog care, and have worked with the Dane County Humane Society Critter Camp summer program in past years. I have personally participated in the largest exotic animal raid in US history, involving over 25,000 animals in Texas in 2009, and helped the 600 hedgehogs seized in that raid find homes across the United States and Canada. You can read more about that raid here. I adopted two of the hedgehogs rescued from Texas, and at least 20 made their way to Wisconsin.

Hedgehogs are not my only animal interest. Since August 2010, I have been volunteering with Rock County Humane Society. I have had the opportunity to meet wonderful people who volunteer and come to meet or adopt cats, and have found it tremendously rewarding. In the summer of 2012 my family fostered 11 kittens and a cat who were waiting to be adopted. We have two wonderful adopted cats of our own.
